Check Your Cables

Ultra HD, also known as 4K, is the newest and best picture format for home theaters. It’s four times the resolution of HD and displays vivid colors like you’ve never seen before. However, there are a few technical requirements you need in order to enjoy this format – and it has nothing to do with the label on your flat screen or projector.

Getting the right cables is a crucial part of hooking up 4K.  And you’re going to need some new ones if you want to support UHD content. That’s why the HDMI Forum – the group that determines HDMI specs – came up with HDMI 2.0. This new cable has been designed to support 4K content, and the secret is increased bandwidth. Even if you are not streaming content using the Internet, you still need a high-bandwidth connection between your 4K Blu-ray player and your 4K projector or TV. Additionally, the 2.0 allows you to run two separate shows in full 1080p HD on the same display simultaneously – just in case you want to watch two things at once.

There have already been a number of upgrades to the HDMI 2.0 – like the 2.0a. This version supports HDR content and can make a huge difference in your cinema experience. As this technology continues to evolve, we get even closer to a 4K future.

Invest in a Professional Network

A connected home, and a custom home theater in particular, needs a strong and reliable network. Smart home technology needs enough bandwidth to support every connection without slowing it down. This is also true for streaming movies, TV shows, and video games in Ultra HD.

According to the content delivery network Akamai, only about 21 percent of American homes had enough bandwidth to support 4K content in September 2015. But there’s good news: your home simply needs a network upgrade to support all of those incredible pixels. We can upgrade or install a network that will support all of your media, and maintain a strong connection no matter what you are watching. You’ll be able to enjoy Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, online gaming systems, and movie servers too – like Kaleidescape which allow you to download new and classic movies in 4K.
